The Drowsy Chaperone
Os indicados ao prêmio Antoinette Perry, mais conhecido como Tony, foram anunciados ontem. O prêmio, o mais cobiçado do teatro estadunidense, será entregue no próximo dia 11 de junho em uma cerimônia no Radio City Music Hall.

As indicações foram anunciadas por Phylicia Rashad, Natasha Richardson e Liev Schreiber. O grande vencedor em número de indicações foi o musical The Drowsy Chaperone. Em seguida em número de indicações ficaram a adaptação de A Cor Púrpura, com onze indicações, e a estréia de Harry Connick Jr. na Broadway, The Pajama Game, com nove indicações. The History Boys, com o mesmo elenco da montagem londrina, incluindo Richard Griffiths, o tio Válter da série Harry Potter, recebeu sete indicações. Griffiths é visto como um provável ganhador na categoria melhor ator, desde que consiga vencer outro britânico, Ralph Fiennes, indicado por Faith Healer. Entre as atrizes a competição é mais dura entre Kate Burton e Lynn Redgrave, as duas indicadas por The Constant Wife, Cynthia Nixon, conhecida aqui como a Miranda de Sexy and the City, e Lisa Kron.

Ficaram de fora das indicações a estréia de Julia Roberts na Broadway, Three Days of Rain, e outro nome conhecido do grande público, Gabriel Byrne, que está na montagem de A Touch of the Poet. A exclusão de Roberts e a preferência por um musical sem estrelas hollywoodianas foi elogiada por alguns críticos, que vêem com preocupação a entrada cada vez maior de estrelas do cinema sem experiência teatral como forma de atrair o público.

Antoinette Perry foi atriz, diretora, produtora e líder da American Theatre Wing. O prêmio com seu nome foi entregue pela primeira vez em 1947, quando foram entregues onze prêmios em sete categorias e oito prêmios especiais. Os vencedores do primeiro prêmio incluem José Ferrer, Arthur Miller, Ingrid Bergman, Elia Kazan e Helen Hayes.
